PH will have not one, but two drag competitions

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 17) — Filipino drag queens will now take the spotlight with two drag reality shows officially happening in the country.

American reality TV competition “RuPaul’s Drag Race” announced early Tuesday that it is now casting for the first season of its Philippine franchise titled “Drag Race Philippines.”

“If you think you have what it takes to become the first Drag Race superstar from the Philippines, we want to hear from you,” RuPaul said in a video teaser. “Show us your charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, and this could be the beginning of the rest of your life.”

Drag Race, which originated in 2009, has also expanded its international franchise to other countries like Thailand, Canada, Spain, and Italy, among others. Drag Race Philippines will premiere exclusively on streaming platform WOW Presents Plus, with the host, judges and airing date to be announced.

Drag Race alum and Filipino queen Manila Luzon was first to announce auditions for drag reality show “Drag Den Philippines” which she herself will host. The show will be locally produced by Cornerstone Studios and Project 8 corner San Joaquin Projects.

In her Instagram post on Monday, Luzon said aspiring contestants have to be 18 years old and above, “with good makeup skills,” “a pleasing personality, and “a desire for an exciting new life.” Auditions are open from August 16 to August 31.
