Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 14) – The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Saturday announced it will temporarily halt accepting patients who are not infected with the coronavirus.
The PGH cited the increasing number of COVID-19 cases admitted in the hospital as reason.
“Ang PGH ay nananatiling COVID-19 Referral Center, at dahil sa dumadaming bilang ng mga COVID patients, kinakailangang magbukas kami ng karagdagang lugar para sa mga ito,” the hospital said in a statement.
[Translation: The PGH remains a COVID-19 Referral Center and because of the increasing number of COVID patients, we need to allot more spaces for them.]
The PGH said it will immediately make an announcement if non-COVID-19 patients will again be allowed for admission, once the number of COVID-19 patients dwindles.
The country marked two grim milestones on Saturday. It again broke its record for the second highest number of new COVID-19 cases reported in a day with 14,249 while the death toll surpassed 30,000.
