Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 7) – The Black Mamba-Army Lady Troopers made sure to end their 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference stint on a winning note by beating the Cignal HD Spikers in four sets, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, Saturday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Veteran hitters Jovelyn Gonzaga and Royse Tubino unleashed their known scoring form with 14 and 12 points apiece to help the Lady Troopers finish the conference with a 4-5 slate.
The duo led Army’s early offensive onslaught in the lopsided first set, but an error-plagued second set hurt the Lady Troopers and gave an edge to Cignal.
The Kungfu Reyes-mentored Army squad bounced back in the third frame as Gonzaga and Tubino commanded another set of attacks for the lead.
The Lady Troopers never looked back in the fourth set as the HD Spikers struggled with unforced errors.
Gonzaga and Nene Bautista converted the needed points in the tail end of the game for the victory.
Rachel Daquis led the Shaq delos Santos-coached Cignal with 13 points as they also bowed out of the 2021 PVL Open Conference with a 1-8 record.
