Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 4) — There will be no disconnection of power and water services in Metro Manila when the region returns to a hard lockdown this month due to the threat of the feared Delta variant of the coronavirus.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Regulatory Office announced it has ordered Maynilad and Manila Water to suspend all service disconnection activities in the National Capital Region when it reverts to the strictest enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 to 20.
The regulator also directed the concessionaires to ensure there will be no water supply interruptions within their service areas during the ECQ period.
In a separate statement, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said there will also be no disconnection activities in Metro Manila from August 6 to 20.
Meralco will also be suspending disconnections in Laguna, which has been placed under modified ECQ from August 1 to 15.
The power distributor added that it will be “very considerate” for customers in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).
Both meter reading and billing operations will continue under tighter quarantine measures and strict health and safety protocols, the MWSS and Meralco said.
“The agency will continue to protect the welfare of the public, especially during this difficult time of the pandemic,” the MWSS added.
