Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 3)— Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio is set to receive millions worth of incentives — both from the government and private sector — after her historic silver-medal run in the Tokyo Olympics.
Here’s a list of rewards in store for Petecio, the country’s first female Olympic boxing medalist:
Cash incentives: At least ₱17 million (government and private sector)
– ₱5 million through Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act
– ₱5 million pledged by San Miguel Corporation
– ₱5 million pledged by MVP Sports Foundation
– ₱2 million pledged by House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero
Properties
– Fully-furnished condominium unit worth ₱10 million pledged by Megaworld Corp.
– Brand new house and lot pledged by Ovialand, Inc.
Free flights
– Five years of unlimited flights pledged by AirAsia Philippines
– 60,000 Mabuhay Miles per year, for life, pledged by Philippine Airlines
Other perks
– Nestlé products for Petecio’s hometown in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur and NGO of choice, pledged by Nestea
Petecio grabbed the silver in the women’s featherweight final on Tuesday after absorbing a tough unanimous decision loss against hometown bet Sena Irie of Japan.
The win is also the Philippines’ first medal in boxing since Anthony Villanueva and Onyok Velasco nabbed one silver each in the 1964 and 1996 Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan and Atlanta, USA, respectively.
