
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 1) – Jaja Santiago and the rest of the Chery Tiggo Crossovers conquered another big team in the 2021 PVL Open Conference, the Petro Gazz Angels, via a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 sweep, Sunday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
The 6-foot-5 Santiago came up with an efficient scoring outing with 20 points, 16 of those are in attacks. She scored on over 72% of her total attacks.
The older Santiago, Dindin, added 12 points to notch their fifth win in seven games and tighten its grip in the third spot in the team standings.
Jaja and Mylene Paat made crucial kills in the homestretch of the third set as Petro Gazz made a futile attempt to steal the set win.
Angels middle blocker Remy Palma committed an error to widen the Crossovers’ lead to two, 23-21. Santiago put Chery Tiggo at match point before finalizing the sweep with a powerful hit.
Ria Meneses led Petro Gazz with 11 points, who fell to a 4-2 record and currently at fourth place.
In their previous game, the Crossovers ended the Creamline Cool Smashers’ 25-game winning streak with a four-set win.
