Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 31) – Measures were taken to better cater to the needs of patients seen lying on stretchers outside a hospital in Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental, the Department of Health said Saturday.
“Na-i-report po sa atin na na-i-ayos ng ospital doon ang kalagayan,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a Laging Handa briefing.
[Translation: It was reported to us the situation in the hospital has been addressed].
“They were able to open up ang isang (one) floor ng (of the) Northern Mindanao Medical Center to accommodate iyong mga taong nag-aantay doon sa labas ng ospital (the patients waiting outside the hospital),” she added.
Vergeire was asked to give an update on the DOH regional office’s probe into the viral video showing patients lying on stretchers outside the CDO hospital. Some were under pop-up tents while others were on wheelchairs and benches next to oxygen tanks.
The overall healthcare utilization rate in Northern Mindanao is 51.9%, Vergeire said on Friday. In Misamis Oriental, 75% or 457 of the 608 COVID-19 beds are occupied.
