Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 23) – Petro Gazz Angels went back to their winning ways after disposing Cignal in three sets, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21, Friday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Gretchel Soltones bounced back from a bad outing in their loss against league leader Creamline last July 20 as she finished with 14 points and eight excellent receptions. Ces Molina added 11 points and 16 digs, while Myla Pablo had 10 markers.
Petro Gazz dominated the first two sets thanks to the fantastic hits by Soltones and Pablo and superb net defense by Ria Meneses, who aced four of the Angels’ eight block points.
Cignal attempted to score a set late in the third frame after Petro Gazz committed costly errors. A hit by May Luna tied the game at 20-all.
Molina spearheaded a 4-0 scoring attack for the Angels as the Arnold Laniog-coached squad sealed the victory with a block point coming off another Luna hit.
Luna topscored for Cignal with 15 points, while Roselyn Doria and Rachel Anne Daquis contributed nine points apiece for their defeat.
Petro Gazz is now tied with Chery Tiggo Crossovers in third place with a 2-1 record. Cignal fell to a 1-2 slate.
