IATF approves hosting of Asian women’s volleyball tilt in August

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 16) – The Philippines is all set to host this year’s Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Friday the Inter-Agency Task Force’s approval of the country’s hosting of the Asian women’s volleyball tilt slated from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 at Clark, Pampanga and Subic Bay in Olongapo City, Zambales.

he PNVF thanked the Philippine government for giving clearance to the holding of the continental volleyball tournament in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suzara earlier said the Angeles University Foundation Gym and the San Fernando Convention Center will be the tournament playing venues. Teams will be billeted at the Royce Hotel and Quest Hotel in the Clark Freeport Zone.

The country previously hosted the prestigious tournament, held every two years, in 1997 and 2017.

Jiangmen, China is the original host of the 21st Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship but it pulled out due to unspecified reasons.

The Philippines is expected to parade in the AVC tilt its newly formed team bannered by Aby Maraño, Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, and Eya Laure.

The Filipina spikers are grouped with Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan in Pool A of the tournament, which the PNVF said is a lighter group compared to Pool B composed of Thailand, South Korea, Iran, and Australia.

“We would like to thank the IATF and Malacañang for approving our request,” PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara said.

The top two finishers of the 21st Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship will play in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship co-hosted by Poland and the Netherlands.
