Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 4) – The country tallied 5,392 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the total case count to 1,441,746, the Department of Health’s latest bulletin showed.
Of the total, 51,594 or 3.6% are active cases or currently ill patients. At least 91.1% are experiencing mild symptoms, 3.8% are asymptomatic, 1.5% are critical, 2.1% are in severe condition, and 1.57% have moderate symptoms.
Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 25,192 or 1.75% of the nationwide tally after 43 new fatalities were reported. The recovery count also climbed to 1,364,960 or 94.7% of the nationwide tally, with 6,477 more COVID-19 survivors.
The DOH said 15 duplicates were removed from the nationwide count, of which, nine were recoveries.
It added that 20 cases previously reported as recoveries have been validated to be deaths.
All laboratories were operational on July 3, while 10 laboratories failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. Based on data in the last 14 days, the non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 0.70% of samples tested and 1.40% of positive cases.
The daily positivity rate or percentage of people that tested positive stood at 11.3% based on 47,614 tests done on July 3. The World Health Organization recommended that positivity rates be below 5% as higher numbers may mean high transmission.
Among overseas Filipinos, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 28 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total cases abroad to 20,909.
It added that six more Filipino patients abroad succumbed to COVID-19, with the death toll now at 1,243. The recovery count also rose to 12,337 after two more overseas Filipinos recovered from the highly infectious disease.
