Manila mayor allows walk-in clients to ramp up vaccination drive

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 21) – The Manila local government again allows walk-in clients to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in the 22 vaccination sites in the city.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday issued the order after low turnout was reported in four mall vaccination sites, each having 2,500 doses.

Moreno went to one of the four mall vaccination sites and expressed his disappointment on the low turnout.

“Vaccine should be made available to anybody. Kahit mahaba pila, ang tagal natin naghintay. Isang taon, tatlong buwan na eh. Ang tagal na, hirap na ang tao,” Moreno said.

[Translation: Vaccine should be made available to anybody. Even if we have long queue, we must be patient because we waited for the arrival of these vaccines for so long. We waited for one year and three months. It is too long, the people are suffering.]

Since Moreno ordered the resumption of vaccination of walk-in clients, more than 2,000 individuals received their first dose, according to the Manila Public Information Office.

MPIO reported that as of 11:00 AM on Monday, only 170 doses were administered in Lucky Chinatown Mall, 195 in Robinsons Place Manila, 233 in SM City Manila, and 313 in SM San Lazaro.

The city government issued a directive last Sunday that no walk-in clients would be allowed in the city’s 22 vaccination sites. Only those who received a text message via Manila CoVax SMS would be entertained.
