
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 11) — The Eastern Visayas Inter-Agency Task Force has asked the national government to raise the region’s lockdown status to general community quarantine (GCQ).
In its Resolution No. 28 dated June 9 but released on Thursday, the regional IATF said it recommends the raising of the quarantine classification imposed in Eastern Visayas, which is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
“In order to contain the surge and facilitate the implementation of necessary measures by local government units and regional line agencies, it is imperative to impose a higher community quarantine classification,” the document read.
On June 9, the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas reported a record 361 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the region’s tally to 22,766.
Nationwide, the number of infections reached 1,293,687 on Thursday after 7,485 more people tested positive for COVID-19.
