Pagdanganan, Pagunsan join Saso in Tokyo Olympics hunt

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 8) – Filipino golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Juvic Pagunsan are also on the hunt for a Tokyo Olympics trip.

Both Pagdanganan and Pagunsan are in the Top 60 Olympic Golf rankings in their respective genders, based on the updated list released on Tuesday. The 60 best golfers in each gender will take the tickets to Tokyo.

The 23-year-old Pagdanganan is at 42nd place in the Olympic Golf rankings, where newly minted US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso is at ninth place.

Pagdanganan, an Asian Games and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, last competed in the 2021 Pure Silk Championship at Williamsburg, Virginia where she finished in 39th place overall.

Meanwhile, Pagunsan made into the Top 60 in the men’s side after taking home the Mizuno Open crown last May 30. He currently holds the 51st spot in the rankings.

It was Pagunsan’s second professional title after winning the 2007 Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational.

The Olympic debuts of Saso and Pagdanganan will be formalized on June 28, while Pagunsan will have to wait until June 21 to crack the list of qualified golfers for the Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics golf competitions are slated from July 29 to August 7 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.
