Customs seizes ₱5-M worth of smuggled animal medicines

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 3) – The Bureau of Customs said it has seized 2.5 tons of smuggled veterinary medicines from India worth around ₱5 million.

In a statement on Thursday, the bureau said the illegally imported animal drugs declared as latex gloves were discovered during inspection at the Manila International Container Port or MICP.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment, which is now under investigation for possible violation of Republic Act 10863 or the “Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.”

MICP reminded importers that medicines, whether for human consumption or not, must be brought into the country with all the necessary permits from proper regulating agencies. It added that the use of smuggled medicines may have adverse effects to users.
