
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 2) — Tropical Storm Dante made landfall in the vicinity of Sulat, Eastern Samar at 8:30 p.m., state weather bureau PAGASA said.
At 10 p.m., Dante was seen in the vicinity of Tarangnan, Samar. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

PAGASA said strong winds are expected in these areas within 36 hours.
It also warned of scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in high-hazard areas.
The storm is seen to bring moderate to intense rains in Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, northern Negros Ocidental, northeastern Iloilo, Capiz, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Sorsogon, Albay, and Quezon including Polillo Islands.
Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are also likely to drench Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the rest of CALABARZON, Oriental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, Camiguin, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, and Misamis Oriental.
The weather bureau said Dante will continue moving generally west northwestward or northwestward until Thursday morning.
Dante is expected to maintain its strength for the next 24 hours before weakening into a tropical depression. However, PAGASA said there is an “increasing likelihood” that Dante will become a tropical depression at a much earlier time.
One reported dead
One person was reported dead and another missing in the Soccsksargen Region after Dante’s onslaught, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday.
The NDRRMC, however, noted the reports were still undergoing validation.
On Monday, the agency said it was validating reports of two more deaths from the Davao Region.
Weather in other parts of Luzon
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, is expected to have hot and humid weather with chances of isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren said.
Dante’s trough may bring rains in Metro Manila on Thursday, but the region will have warm weather on the other days of the week, she added.
