Magnitude-5.2 quake hits waters off Davao Occidental town

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 22) — A magnitude-5.2 earthquake struck Saturday in waters off the coast of Davao Occidental, the government seismology agency said.

The quake was recorded at 7:56 a.m. with a depth of 48 kilometers, 159 km east of Don Marcelino town, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in its bulletin. 

Phivolcs said it is not expecting damage but added aftershocks may occur.

It said the tremor was tectonic in origin or there was a movement in the Earth’s crust.
