Kristina Knott notches two silvers in Italy meet

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 21) – Filipino American sprinter Kristina Knott bagged two silvers in the 2021 Castiglione International Athletic Meeting on Wednesday at Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy.

The 25-year-old Knott clocked in 11.30 seconds in the 100-meter race to finish second behind world no. 3 Marie-Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast, who recorded 10.98 seconds.

In the 200-meter run, Knott sprinted with a time of 23.19 seconds behind the 22.88-second finish of Ta Lou.

Knott’s marks in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints are her second personal bests for this year.

Knott continues her quest to meet the Olympic qualifying marks of 11.15 seconds in the 100-meter run and 22.80 seconds in the 200-meter sprint for her to qualify in the Tokyo Olympics.

She will next compete in the Jacksonville World Athletics Continental Tour Silver level event.

Knott is the current Philippine record holder for the women’s 100-meter and 200-meter runs. She clocked 11.27 seconds in her silver-medal finish at the Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Iowa in August last year, eclipsing sports legend Lydia de Vega’s 33-year-old national record in the century dash. In the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, she also broke De Vega’s national record in the women’s 200 meters after recording a time of 23.01 seconds to take home the gold medal.
