LOOK: Rabiya Mateo’s Sarimanok-inspired evening gown

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) — Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo may have ended her journey early at the pageant’s grand coronation, but she still had the chance to sashay on stage in another Filipino-made evening gown.

In his Instagram post, Dubai-based Filipino designer Furne One of Amato Couture showed a series of photos of Mateo donning an orange haltered gown inspired by the Philippine mythical bird Sarimanok, shortly after the 69th Miss Universe pageant held on Monday.

“The mythical bird of the (Maranao) people that originated from Mindanao, an Island south of the Philippines, symbolizes good fortune,” he said.

The designer added that the gown is embroidered with hyacinth Swarovski crystals, glass beads, and paillettes.

“Laser-cut fabrics were delicately attached to the tulle-based gown formed like feathers to give it a softer look on the hem,” Furne One added.

He also said that the gown “celebrates the festivals of Iloilo City, also known as the city of love.” The color also symbolizes “joy, happiness, and creativity.”

“We are still so proud of you, @rabiyamateo, like a phoenix, on your own pace and time, you will soar high,” he said in a separate post.

Furne One also designed Mateo’s yellow gown which she wore during the preliminary round of the competition.

Mateo finished in the Top 21 of the pageant. Mexico’s Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe 2020 at the Seminold Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida in United States.
