DOH: COVID-19 vaccines safe after boat capsizes off Quezon

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) — The COVID-19 vaccine doses on a boat that capsized off the coast of Quezon province are safe, a Health official said Saturday.

“Naimbestigahan na po natin iyan. Apparently, ito palang mga bakuna ay nakadouble na plastic so hindi ho sila nagalaw. Atin pong chineck ang potency at maaari siyang gamitin,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

[Translation: We already investigated that incident. Apparently, these vaccines are secured by two layers of plastic, so they were unaffected. We checked their potency and found they still can be used.]

An Agriculture department service boat ferrying two boxes of COVID-19 vaccine and six people, including two Health personnel, capsized 100 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Ungos in Real town on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.

No one got hurt, the PCG added.

CNN Philippines asked Vergeire how many doses were transported, but she has yet to reply.
