Filipino rookie places 8th in British Formula 4 debut

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) – Young Filipino race car driver Eduardo Coseteng made his presence felt in his Formula 4 debut last weekend after finishing eighth in the first race of the 2021 British F4 Championship.

The 17-year-old Coseteng, who plays for the Phinsys by Argenti motorsport team, is the first Filipino to race in the Formula 4.

Coseteng received a total of 14 points after the two-day races held at the Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, England.

On May 8, Coseteng immediately made an impact after placing fourth in the field of 16 drivers. He is also the best-timed rookie in that race, earning him a Rookie Cup citation for his performance.

The following day, Coseteng settled for 15th and 11th place finishes in the event’s last two races. Despite finishing in the bottom half, Coseteng recorded the fastest lap in the two races among the 16 racers.

Coseteng, the son of Filipino motorsports legend Jody, sits at third place in the Rookie Cup standings with 33 points.

Before his F4 debut, Coseteng shared that making it to the prestigious racing tilt has always been his dream and he vowed to work hard in slowly progressing into the higher racing championships.

“You’re not just there to take part, you’re always there to be the best. If you don’t go with that mentality, why are you still a racing driver?” Coseteng said in an interview on “Who the heck are we?” podcast hosted by Claro Manzano, Jay dela Cruz, and Claudia Perrine.

Coseteng previously clinched the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) junior titles in 2017, the AKOC’s Formula 125 and Senior X30 classes in 2018, and the Macau International Kart Grand Prix in 2019.

The now United Kingdom-based Coseteng will next race in June at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk, England.
