PH logs 7,174 new COVID-19 cases, records 204 new deaths

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — The country recorded on Sunday 7,174 new COVID-19 infections, said the Department of Health in its latest bulletin.

The death toll is now at 18,472, after 204 more patients died from the virus. The last time the country recorded over 200 new coronavirus-related deaths was on April 12, where 204 new deaths were also recorded.

The nationwide tally is now at 1,101,990, where 61,294 or 5.6% are active cases.The DOH added that 93.8% are experiencing mild symptoms, 2.1% are asymptomatic, 1.3% are in critical condition, 1.7% are severe cases, and 1.07% are moderate.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported three new COVID-19 infections among Filipinos abroad, raising the number to 18,540 in 94 countries. The fatality count among overseas Filipinos is now at 1,160, with only one new death recorded. The survivor count in the sector remains at 11,349, said the DFA.

The number of COVID-19 survivors also climbed to 1,022,224, with 9,197 more recoveries reported.

The DOH said 149 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation. It added that 33 duplicates were removed from the nationwide tally, in which 28 were deemed recoveries and one death.

The daily positivity rate, or the rate of infected patients among those tested, is at 13.9% out of 46,878 tests conducted as of May 7.

The DOH added that all laboratories were operational on May 7 and all of them were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
