Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 1) – Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala on Friday announced she will compete in a $25,000 tournament in Platja d’Aro, Spain on May 17.

The 15-year-old Eala is already in the main draw, according to the International Tennis Federation. The Filipino tennis wunderkind is up for a tough task in the upcoming Platja d’Aro joust as previous Grand Slam campaigners Maddison Inglis, Tereza Martincova, Arantxa Rus, and Anna-Lena Friedsam are among those in the initial list of participants.

Eala also revealed she withdrew from her W15 tournaments in Turkey due to the COVID-19 situation there.

“Nevertheless, I continue to train on clay. Let’s continue to take care of each other by continuing to wear masks,” Eala said.

The Filipino tennis ace was last seen on the court on April 9 in a third-round loss to Switzerland’s Simona Waltert in her W60 tournament debut.

As of April 26, Eala sits at her career-high world no. 660 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings. The Rafa Nadal Academy standout remains the third-best female junior tennis player in the world in the ITF rankings.
