PH records 8,748 new COVID-19 cases

The daily positivity rate, or the ratio of infected patients among those tested, remained at 16.9% out of the 50,022 tests conducted as of April 28. However, it still exceeds the recommended rate of less than 5% by the World Health Organization.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 30) – The country logged 8,748 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the Department of Health said in its latest bulletin.

The nationwide tally is now at 1,037,460, of which 73,908 or 7.1% are active cases or people currently sick. The DOH said 95.1% of the active cases have mild symptoms, 1.7% are asymptomatic, 1.0% are in critical condition , 1.3% are severe cases, and 0.87% have moderate symptoms.

The DOH added that 26 duplicates were removed from the total case count, including 18 earlier tagged as recoveries.

Meanwhile, the nationwide death toll reached 17,234 after 89 more COVID-19 patients died. The DOH said 46 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after validation.

The number of survivors also climbed to 946,318 after 4,143 more patients recovered.

Among Filipino abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 32 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the total to 18,357. Three of the new cases in Asia and the Pacific have been verified by the DOH.

The number of coronavirus survivors among overseas Filipinos is now at 11,271 after 38 more patients recovered. No new fatalities were reported, with the death toll remaining at 1,145, the DFA said.
