Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 27) – Senator Leila de Lima was released from hospital on Tuesday after completing several tests during her three-day medical furlough.
The medical team who attended to de Lima said the results of her brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT angiography showed no evidence of stroke.
De Lima’s doctors added she experienced episodes of migraine headaches due to hot environment, poor ventilation, and noise.
The detained senator’s physicians recommended to increase ventilation in her detention quarters. They also emphasized that De Lima’s blood pressure and sugar level must be regularly monitored, adding she must avoid stress.
“But how can I avoid stress, especially during these very trying times? Stress practically defines my adult life as a public servant,” De Lima said.
The lawmaker is expected to return to the PNP Headquarters, where she has been detained since 2017 due to charges on her supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison when she was Secretary of Justice. One of the three charges against her has since been dismissed.
De Lima was confined at the Manila Doctors Hospital since April 24, a day after two Muntinlupa courts granted her an immediate furlough. The lawmaker experienced a transient ischemic attack or a mild stroke and was prescribed to get an MRI, which was not available at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital.
De Lima also took a one-day medical furlough in February to get a check-up.
