FEU high school urges members to report sexual abuse incidents after social media outcry

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 19) — The Far Eastern University High School has condemned “in the strongest terms” reports of sexual harassment involving some of its faculty members which have surfaced on social media.

The school issued the statement on Monday, saying its administration “takes these claims seriously.”

“We strongly urge our students to report these kinds of incidents to our Human Resources Office by sending an email along with supporting evidence to hr@feuhighschool.edu.ph, so these matters may be handled accordingly,” it said.

A number of Twitter users have also criticized the institution for supposedly falling short of protecting its students and in implementing appropriate actions even after some victims have come forward.

It added students may also seek assistance from their respective guidance counselors. The FEU high school assured that the identities of the parties involved shall be strictly kept confidential.

“We assure the FEU High School Community that this matter is one that we take very seriously, and all efforts are being made to maintain a safe school environment free from any gender-based sexual harassment,” it added.

#FEUHSDoBetter has trended on Twitter after members of the high school, including alumni, shared multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Several of these claims tagged some teachers as perpetrators, who groom students before taking advantage of them.

On the other hand, the FEU High School Student Government slammed the reports of sexual harassment on students.

“We unequivocally condemn the alleged sexual misconduct and acts of inappropriateness by select FEU High School employees, both former and current,” read the statement.

“Arrangements and conventions are in place for the appropriate filing of reports of such malicious incidents […] We call for accountability and justice to engage in efforts to inquire upon the issue and to effect changes in our system,” it added.
