Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 17) — A magnitude-5.4 earthquake struck waters off Sarangani in Davao Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Saturday.
Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 4:55 a.m. It initially reported the tremor to be at magnitude 5.5 but downgraded it in a follow-up advisory.
The agency said it is not expecting damage but aftershocks may occur.
It also said the quake with a depth of 39 kilometers was tectonic in origin, which means there was a movement in the Earth’s crust.
