Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 22) — The Judicial and Bar Council on Monday submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte the shortlist of nominees for the country’s top magistrate post.

Three Supreme Court justice made it to the list, namely Justices Estela Perlas-Bernabe, Alexander Gesmundo, and Ramon Paul Hernando.

The President will have the final say on the appointment. From the time the post is vacated, Duterte will have 90 days to choose the replacement, according to the JBC rules. Incumbent Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta will bow out of the high court a year early on March 27, after he signified his intention to step down on his 69th birthday.

Perlas-Bernabe, who was also previously nominated for the same post, was appointed to the tribunal in 2011. Gesmundo was named as magistrate in 2017, and Hernando in 2018.
