Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 18) — The Department of Trade and Industry is seeking to tighten restrictions on activities recently reopened or expanded in areas under general community quarantine due to rising COVID-19 cases, Secretary Ramon Lopez said Thursday.
The DTI wants a two-week temporary closure of driving schools, cinemas, gaming arcades, museums and cultural centers, and limited social events in establishments accredited by the Department of Tourism.
The meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions industry must also reduce its capacity to 30%.
Restaurants, cafés, and establishments that offer personal care services should reduce its capacity back to 50%, Lopez added.
The agency also reminded establishments to improve their ventilation.
Metro Manila mayors recently agreed to implement uniform curfew hours for two-weeks, in a bid to control the surge of COVID-19 infections. Minors in the region were also prohibited to leave their homes for non-essential travels for two weeks.
The country recorded 5,290 new cases on Thursday, bring the total number of infections to 640,984.
