PCG: More than 4,200 people stranded in ports due to Auring

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 21) – The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday said that 4,259 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers are stranded at ports in Bicol and some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao due to Tropical Storm Auring.

As of 4 p.m., the PCG said that 1,824 rolling cargoes, 77 vessels, and three motorbanca are stranded in Northern and North Eastern Mindanao; Eastern, Western, and Central Visayas; and the Bicol Region.

Most of the stranded people are in Eastern Visayas. The PCG said that 2,607 passengers, drivers, and helpers in the ports of Liloan Ferry Terminal, San Ricardo, Sta. Clara, Balwarteco, and Dapdap.

Also stranded in the said ports in Eastern Visayas are 860 rolling cargoes and six vessels.

Moreover, the PCG said that 80 vessels and 56 motorbancas are currently taking shelter as a precautionary measure.

The state weather bureau said that Auring is expected to make an initial landfall over the Dinagat Islands-Eastern Samar-Leyte area tomorrow morning.

Several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao are currently under warning signal no. 2.
