PRC to allow vaccinees to donate doses for the poor

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 28) — People who want to get inoculated against COVID-19 through the Philippine Red Cross may also sponsor the vaccination of another individual who can’t afford to pay for their own vaccines.

Speaking to CNN Philippines’ Newsroom Ngayon, PRC chairman and Sen. Richard Gordon said the amount of vaccines purchased by the sponsors will be split evenly and distributed among poor and marginalized Filipinos.

Halimbawa, ako nagbigay— bumayad ako ng isa para sa akin. Ililibre ko yung isa na mahirap,” he explained.

[Translation: For example, I will purchase a vaccine for myself. I will then pay for the vaccine of someone poor.]

Gordon also assured the public the organization will not profit from this donation scheme, and that a number of people have already expressed willingness to take part in it. He has also made reservations for doses of the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines for the PRC, he added.

Gordon reiterated the PRC’s willingness to assist in the government’s vaccination efforts, and they have already expanded training for future vaccinators.

Gordon reminded the public as well that minimum public health protocols should still be observed even after getting vaccinated, a sentiment shared by health experts.
