Customs seizes ₱7.8 million worth of ‘ukay-ukay’ from China

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 5) — Misdeclared ukay-ukay’ or used clothes from China worth around ₱7.8 million were confiscated by the Bureau of Customs at the Port of Manila before the New Year.

The BOC on Tuesday said two containers’ worth of ukay-ukay entered the country during the Christmas holidays and were declared as tissue paper.

“Examination of the container however revealed that it actually contained used clothes estimated to have a value of Php 7.853 million,” the bureau said.

The shipment, which was consigned to the MGGF International Trading Corp., was seized on Dec. 29 for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The bureau said the revocation of the importer’s accreditation is already being processed.
