PAGASA sees rainy New Year’s Eve in several parts of PH, including Metro Manila

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 29) — It will be a rainy New Year’s Eve for Metro Manila and some parts of the country due to an approaching low pressure area, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

Speaking to CNN Philippines’ New Day, PAGASA weather forecaster Raymond Ordinario said the approaching LPA, still outside Philippine territory, is generating cloud clusters that will bring light rains until Thursday.

“Generally magiging maulan nang bahagya nitong pagpapalit ng taon ngayong Huwebes kaya magmomonitor tayo lalo na sa silangang bahagi ng ating bansa,” Ordinario said.

“May paparating tayong cloud clusters galing sa LPA na mino-monitor natin sa labas ng PAR (Philippine Area of Responsibility) so posibleng magkaroon niyan ng epekto pagdating ng ating New Year’s Eve,” he added.

When asked for his forecast of Thursday’s weather situation, Ordinario said Metro Manila can expect a “generally cloudy condition with some chances of scattered rains and thunderstorms,” along with Visayas and parts of Mindanao due to the approaching LPA.

This LPA was last seen 1,165 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 5 a.m.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region are seen to experience light rains on Thursday due to the same weather system.

For the meantime, Caraga, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Kalayaan Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms on Tuesday due to the trough of a previous LPA that exited the country last night.

This LPA was seen 55 km south of Pagasa Island in Palawan, already outside the PAR.

Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains for the day due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of Cagayan Valley and Aurora will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the tail-end of a frontal system.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA previously said there are no more major tropical cyclones seen to enter the country until yearend. Tropical Depression Vicky (international name: Krovanh) exited the Philippines last December 20, making it the 22nd tropical cyclone to have hit the country this year.
