Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 18) – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested an employee of Department of Justice (DOJ), who posed as an emissary of former police chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan, for attempting to extort ₱1 million each from Bureau of Customs (BOC) brokers.
In a statement on Friday, the suspect was identified as Louie Musni Miranda who claimed that Cascolan is the incoming Customs commissioner and tasked him to collect money from brokers “to avoid having problems with their shipments.”
Major Camilo P. Cascolan, Jr., chief of the Enforcement and Security Service of BOC, confirmed to the complainant that his brother did not ask the suspect to collect such money, said the NBI.
The retired police chief’s brother was also the one who asked NBI to arrest Miranda.
Miranda was arrested in Quezon City last Dec. 15 as soon as he received the entrapment money from the complainant, said the bureau.
NBI added that the complainant is a contractual employee at DOJ and used to work as a job-order employee at the BOC.
The bureau said that the suspect is facing charges for robbery and extortion.
