Water concessionaires to cut water rates in Q1 2021

Metro Manila consumers will have enough water supply for the year while future demand will be met by the construction of the new Kaliwa Dam, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 2) — The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System said water rates in first quarter next year will be slashed with the implementation of lower tariffs for that period.

In a statement on Wednesday, The MWSS Regulatory Office said the Board of Trustees recently approved the recommendation to implement the 2021 first quarter Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment.

For East Zone customers, Manila Water Company, Inc. will implement an FCDA of ₱0.19 per cubic meter, down from ₱0.33 per cubic meter, which is 0.66% of its 2021 average basic charge of ₱28.52 per cubic meter.

This means those consuming 10 cubic meters or less should have a reduction of ₱0.76 on their monthly bill, while those consuming 20 and 30 cubic meters monthly should expect their bills to go down by ₱1.69 and ₱3.45, respectively.

As for the West Zone, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. will apply an FCDA of negative ₱0.14 per cubic meter, from the previous negative ₱0.09 per cubic meters, and is 0.39% of its 2021 average basic charge of ₱36.24 per cubic meter.

Those consuming 10 cubic meters or less should expect ₱0.05 reduction in their bills, while those consuming 20 to 30 cubic meters should have reductions of ₱0.64 and ₱1.30, respectively.

FCDA is a quarterly-renewed tariff mechanism that allows water concessionaires to recover losses or refund gains from fluctuation in foreign exchange rates.
