Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 28) — For the second year in a row, the Philippines was named as the top dive destination by the World Travel Awards 2020.
The country bested eight other popular destinations in the category, namely the Azores Islands, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, the Cayman Islands, Fiji, the Galapagos Islands, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Maldives, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the walled city of Intramuros in Manila was chosen by the body as the world’s leading tourist attraction for the first time.
Intramuros snatched the award from other nominees, including the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in India, Machu Picchu in Peru, and the Grand Canyon National Park in the US.
According to its website, the World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to “acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.”
