
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 30) — The Agriculture department reported that total damage caused by Typhoon Quinta to the industry has reached ₱1.81 billion.
In its latest bulletin on Friday, the Department of Agriculture said a total of 103,773 metric tons of crops were affected with a total area of 73,748 hectares. A total of 32,683 farmers and fisherfolk affected from regions like Ilocos Norte, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, and Zamboanga Peninsula lost their source of income, it added.
Of this, ₱1.14 billion or 79,397 MT is attributed to rice; ₱119.2 million or 5,658 MT is corn; and ₱446.7 million or 18,718 MT of high-value crops.
In addition to this, ₱1.9 million or 2,442 head of livestock and poultry were affected by the said weather system, while damage to fisheries totaled ₱79.9 million, DA said but volume lost was not specified.
In terms of irrigation and agri-facilities, the typhoon led to cost of damage at ₱18.3 million, while in terms of machineries and equipment, total cost was ₱875,000.
The DA said it has already provided assistance to affected farmers and fishermen through loans; distribution of 35,148 bags of rice seeds; 8,310 bags of corn seeds; 2,530 kilos of vegetables; and 440,000 fruit seedlings.
