Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 14) – Quezon Rep. Angelina “Helen” Tan was elected again as the chairperson of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Health, a week after she was ousted from the post amid the speakership dispute.
Tan redeemed her post from Guimaras Rep. Lucilla Nava during the first day of special session at the lower chamber.
The said committee handles matters relating to public health and hygiene, quarantine, medical, hospital, and other health services.
Tan is a known ally of also newly-elected House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco. She and two other lawmakers were stripped off of their committee chairmanships after then Speaker Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano suspected of alleged destabilization in the House.
A total of 186 lawmakers voted earlier to ratify Velasco’s elections as the new Speaker of the House.
