McDonald’s targets to help 500 teachers through ‘McClassrooms’

The company said as of Monday it’s chicken nuggets and several breakfast menu items no longer have artificial preservatives. And McDonald’s plans to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from all its hamburger buns by the end of August.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 8) — Fast food chain McDonald’s is targeting to assist 500 teachers through its program that provides them temporary space to teach students in the new normal.

“We are hoping to target 500 teachers during this period until October 15,” McDonald’s President and CEO Kenneth Yang told CNN Philippines’ News Night.

Yang noted that currently, 200 teachers already availed of the services of the two-week project.

Dubbed as McClassrooms, the fast food chain transformed the events place in its 230 branches across the country to provide teachers free access to wi-fi, and coffee, as classes for basic education in the country resumed on Oct. 5 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve converted them into McClassrooms where it’s a safe, work-friendly, comfortable space for our teachers to use to conduct their online classes,” Yang said.

The Department of Education opened academic year 2020-2021 for public schools in the country last Monday through blended learning.

He added that this is also a way for them to utilize such space in their stores that are not being used due to restrictions on mass gatherings.

After two weeks, Yang said they will assess how they can further extend the program.
