NLEX Road Warriors prepare mental toughness before entering the ‘bubble’

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 22) – NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao shared that his team has been preparing mentally before entering the “bubble” on weekend as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) may possibly resume its season next month.

“Yes, we are ready. Actually, I’ve been preparing my team in the last few weeks to be psychologically prepared for this one,” said Guiao in an interview with CNN Philippines on Tuesday.

Although PBA is still awaiting the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to hold the Philippine Cup, players will start arriving inside the bubble in Clark, Pampanga on Sept. 26.

Once approved by the IATF, the league will restart its 45th season on Oct.9.

As part of the mental preparation for the upcoming season, Guiao said that he advised his team to set their expectations upon arrival in the bubble.

“But what we try to do is just to keep telling the guys, just make sure that you are mentally tough, make sure that you don’t expect to go on a picnic or a vacation, this will be going to be tough,” said Guiao. “Maybe you will be going to enjoy in the first few weeks, but after two, three, four weeks, it’s gonna be really tough.”

Under the bubble concept, players and coaches of all the twelve teams will be staying inside the complex until December.

According to Guiao, there will be no visitors allowed and no one from the teams can step outside the bubble while the season is ongoing.

The former national team head coach also said that the bubble concept will be a “unique” experience for everyone.

“This will be a very unique experience; we have never done anything like this before. So, I don’t know if there is any playbook for getting prepared,” said Guiao.
