Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 16) — The weather bureau says the low pressure area being monitored near Tuguegarao City could develop into a tropical depression over the next 48 hours.
Once this happens, the weather disturbance will be named Helen and become the eighth storm to enter the country this year.
“Owing to its proximity to land, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 may be immediately raised over some provinces in Northern Luzon in the initial Severe Weather Bulletin,” said PAGASA.
The bureau warned the LPA is seen to come very close to the mainland Cagayan-Babuyan Islands area in the next 36 hours.
“Today through tomorrow morning, the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Quezon,” it said.
In its latest update, PAGASA said the LPA was last spotted 160 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City.
Residents are advised to be on alert for flooding and rain-induced landslides.
