Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 23) – Around 85 percent of adult Filipinos are worried they might get infected with COVID-19, according to the latest survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) published on Wednesday.
The latest SWS survey results, conducted shortly after the community quarantine relaxed in most areas of the country on July 1, are not far from the survey firm’s May 2020 survey which tallied 87 percent of Filipinos are worried about getting the virus.
“Compared to past SWS surveys, worry about catching the COVID-19 is greater than worries about catching previous viruses such as Ebola, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS),” the survey firm added in its report.
Among the 85 percent who are worried of contracting COVID-19, around 67 percent of them are labeled under the “worried a great deal” category while 18 percent are in the “somewhat worried” category.
The SWS survey conducted from July 3 to 6 also shows that eight percent of Filipinos are “worried a little” while seven percent of Filipinos says they are “not worried” that anyone in their family might catch the virus.
Metro Manila recorded the highest number of those worried of catching the virus at 92 percent, while Balance Luzon got 87 percent. Visayas tallied 85 percent of people who are worried and Mindanao is at 77 percent.
The SWS July 3-6 Survey was made using a mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing among 1,555 adult Filipinos.
To date, the country now has 72,269 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 46,803 active infections. Some 1,843 individuals died and 23,623 persons recovered from the virus.
Despite the continuing rise of cases every day, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque assured the country’s COVID-19 inter-agency task force is active in preventing the spread of the virus.
