More workers in locked down BGC construction site positive for COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 25) — More workers from a now-locked down construction site at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig have tested positive for COVID-19.

Taguig Councilor Darwin Icay on Wednesday said a total of 17 workers, out of the 27, have tested positive for the viral disease. In an earlier report, the city reported that six workers had COVID-19.

The 10 remaining workers are considered suspected COVID-19 cases.

“Ang kalusugan at kapakanan ng mga empleyado sa quarantine site ay imo-monitor nang maigi at walang kahit sino ang papayagang pumasok o lumabas sa construction site,” the Taguig official said in a Facebook video.

[Translation: The health and welfare of the construction workers will be monitored. No one will be allowed to go in or out of the site.]

The unnamed construction site is placed under a localized lockdown from June 23 to July 7.

The Taguig LGU decided to withhold the details about the construction site, its developer, and its workers to protect their right to privacy and avoid unnecessary and undue harm to all the parties involved.

Last week, three areas in Lower Bicutan were placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to a clustering of three or more confirmed COVID-19 cases there.

The ECQ in Purok 4, 5, and 6 of Lower Bicutan will end on July 1. However, the ECQ may be lifted earlier if there will be no new infections in these areas.

To date, Taguig City now has 714 confirmed COVID-19 cases along with 21 deaths and 142 recoveries.
