Magnitude 5.0 quake hits Ilocos Sur

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22) — A magnitude 5 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Ilocos Sur on Monday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the epicenter was at 55 kilometers west of Candon City, and the tremor happened at 4:02 p.m.

The following are the intensities and areas where they were recorded:

Intensity IV – Candon City, Ilocos Sur

Intensity III – Vigan City, Sinait, Santa and Magsingal, Sta. Lucia, Santa Maria, Sta. Cruz, San Esteban, Ilocos Sur; San Fernando City, La Union

Intensity II – Cabugao, San Juan, Bantay, San Ildefonso, Narvacan, Nagbukel, Tagudin, Burgos, Santiago, Sigay, Sinait, Suyo, Ilocos Sur; Banna, Bacarra, Laoag City, and Batac Ilocos Norte

Intensity I – Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte

Phivolcs said no damage was expected while aftershocks could happen.
