Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 15) — The Philippine Embassy in Libya reported its first case of COVID-19 among Filipinos there through a 47-year-old nurse in Tripoli.
The Filipino is an emergency room nurse and most likely got exposed while in the service, the embassy said on Monday.
“Our kababayan got infected while in the line of duty the same way the approximately 1,000 other Filipino nurses and hospital workers are putting themselves at risk serving the people of their adopted country—Libya,” it said.
The Philippine Embassy renewed its call to the authorities of Libya to ensure the safety of frontliners in the country by providing them with proper personal protective equipment.
The infected Filipino nurse is part of the 36 new cases reported in Libya on Monday. To date, Libya has a total of 454 COVID-19 cases, with 10 deaths and 63 recoveries.
Cases around the globe has exceeded seven million.
