Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs announced that the COVID-19 death toll for Filipinos abroad has hit 400 after recording five new fatalities in the Middle East and the Americas. Another 29 Filipinos abroad have the viral disease, the DFA reports, raising the total infected tally in 51 countries to 5,519, while recoveries have risen to 2,48
The department also reported 18,281 active or currently ill patients of whom 17,589, or 96.2 percent, have mild symptoms and 608, or 3.3 percent, had no symptoms. Some 67 persons, or 0.4 percent, are severe cases, while 17, or 0.1 percent, were in critical condition, it added.
The department later added that 13 more healthcare workers caught the viral disease, while 142 have been cured. This raises the tally of infected medical frontliners to 2,846 with 1,032 nurses, 751 doctors, 184 nursing assistants, 113 medical technologists, 56 radiologic technologists and 377 other workers testing positive for COVID-19. The death toll remains at 33, the agency detailed.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 13) — The country’s national tally for COVID-19 cases has reached over 25,000 after the Department of Health posted 607 new infections on Saturday.
The DOH said the total is now at 25,392. Of the new cases, 504 were fresh or reported to the patient within the last three days, making it the highest number of fresh cases listed in a day. The DOH has been separating the total count into fresh and late cases since its COVID-19 bulletin on May 29.
Meanwhile, 103 were part of the validation backlog, 42 of which were in Metro Manila, the agency added.
From the fresh cases, there were 246 from Metro Manila and 85 from Central Visayas, while the rest of the 173 were found in different regions.
On the other hand, 252 more people recovered, bringing total survivors to 5,706, while the death toll rose to 1,074 with 22 additional fatalities, DOH noted.
