Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 5) — The country’s COVID-19 cases rose to 20,626 on Friday after the Department of Health reported 244 more infected patients.
The agency said there were 168 fresh cases or those whose test results were released to the patient within the last three days while 76 were late cases. Late cases had their results released at least four days ago.
From the fresh cases, 127 patients were from the Central Visayas, 24 from Metro Manila and 17 cases from the other different regions. Meanwhile, there were 24 late cases from Metro Manila, 11 from Central Visayas and 41 from the other regions.
Meanwhile, three more people have succumbed to the disease, raising the COVID-19 death toll to 987. A total of 4,330 others have recovered with additional 82 survivors.
The department noted that the number of late cases has decreased, as the validation of reports from testing laboratories near completion. Officials said they are only waiting for one more laboratory to complete its list of conducted tests before the DOH can start reporting only fresh cases.
Among Filipinos abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs listed six more sick Filipinos in 49 countries, with the infected toll now at 5,361, with the DOH verifying 987 of the cases. Four more have died, bringing the total fatalities among overseas Filipinos to 361 while recoveries are at 2,212.
Globally, more than 6.6 million people have caught COVID-19, while nearly 400,000 have died.
