157 new cases raise number of COVID-infected Filipinos abroad to over 2,800

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 28) – The Department of Foreign Affairs has reported 157 new coronavirus infection among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total to 2,821.

The DFA said on Thursday that the COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos were recorded in 47 countries, with the highest number reported in the Middle East and the African continent at 899. It was followed by Europe with 806, the Americas with 633, and the Asia Pacific region with 483 cases.

The DFA also said 934 overseas Filipinos have recovered from the disease, while 1,553 are undergoing treatment.

The number of fatalities, meanwhile, is now at 334, the DFA added.

There are now 5.6 million COVID-19 cases in 188 countries, according to the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, which also said around 2 million patients worldwide have recovered from the highly-infectious disease and 355,000 died of it.
