Magnitude 5.4 quake hits San Luis, Aurora province; tremor felt in parts of Metro Manila

The first reported magnitude of the tremor was 5.1.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 23) — An earthquake with a revised magnitude of 5.4 jolted San Luis town in Aurora province, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Saturday.

The quake, which was seven kilometers deep, was recorded at 10:10 a.m., Phivolcs said.

It was felt in parts of Metro Manila, in particular Manila, Alabang and San Juan.

The reported intensities and areas are:

Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Nelson Egargue told CNN Philippines that there were no casualties reported so far to the disaster office.

However, a couple of establishments including supermarkets, a high school, and even the PDRRMO office building, reportedly suffered some minor damage.

“May mga minor damages po kaming naranasan dito sa bayan ng Baler,” Egargue said.

[Translation: We experienced some minor damage here in Baler.]

Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks are expected.
