Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17)— The Department of Foreign Affairs reported Sunday that 37 more Filipinos abroad have contracted COVID-19, bringing the total number of overseas Filipino cases to 2,397.
Two more overseas Filipinos have been discharged from the hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 826. Three more fatalities were also recorded, raising the death toll of Filipinos abroad to 277.
The developments were all recorded in the regions of America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, DFA added.
“Despite the decrease in the daily rate of recoveries reported by the DFA through its Foreign Service Posts today, latest figures show that the total number of Filipinos abroad who recovered from COVID-19 at 826 cases is now almost three times (the number of) the total fatalities and comprises about 34% of the total confirmed cases,” DFA said in its statement.
Globally, the viral disease has infected over 4.6 million individuals in 188 different countries, including China, the epicenter of the outbreak.
Cases in the Philippines have meanwhile topped 12,000 as of the Health Department’s latest record.
