17 more Filipinos abroad infected with COVID-19, bringing total to 2,195

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) – Seventeen new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported among Filipinos abroad, bringing total to 2,195, said the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The DFA also confirmed two new recoveries as the number of overseas Filipinos discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus is now at 644. Meanwhile, 1,291 patients are still undergoing treatment.

On the other hand, seven new fatalities were reported on Monday, with the number of deaths reaching 260, the DFA said.

Most of the COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad were recorded in Europe with 658. It was followed by the Middle East and Africa with 620 cases in total, the Americas with 529, and the Asia Pacific region with 388, it also said.

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, there are now around 4.12 million COVID-19 cases worldwide in 187 countries.

Recoveries reached 1.42 million and the global death toll is more than 282,000, the Center said.
